The Gingerbread House is a sanctuary and rescue for Pekingese and similar small-breed dogs. We focus on senior and hospice pups that require experienced fosters and adopters, or that are not adoptable due to their age, health, or special needs. Many of these dogs have been neglected physically, medically, and emotionally. Some have been surrendered due to their age or medical needs, others come from severe neglect-hoarding situations, and others from backyard breeders and puppy mills. We also partner with local shelters and rescues to take in these precious souls so they are not euthanized. Adoptable dogs remain in our loving foster homes during rehabilitation and vetting, while we work to find their new furever families. Unadoptable pups remain in our sanctuary where they spend their remaining days being cared for, loved and given the best life possible. While in our care we provide for their needs including ongoing veterinary care, medication, supplements, food, continence care, and grooming.
